Ben Whittaker could earn a shot at a world title fight if he defeats Conor Wallace in Birmingham this autumn.
According to talkSPORT, light heavyweight boxers Ben Whittaker and Conor Wallace are in "advanced talks" for an IBF eliminator bout, scheduled for October 3rd at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham.
The 30-year-old Australian, Wallace (17-1, 12 KOs), has never fought outside his home country. His most significant victory to date came against Jerome Pampellone, whom he defeated in a bout that, according to BoxRec, was Pampellone's second consecutive IBF eliminator, despite having lost the first to Malik Zinad. This places Wallace as the higher-ranked of the two, occupying a position behind the vacant spot previously held by Michael Eifert.
Tokyo Olympic silver medalist, Whittaker (12-0-1, 9 KOs), has finished his last four fights in under two rounds each. His impressive streak began with a quick stoppage in his rematch against Liam Cameron and continued with a dominant win over Richard Rivera last month. He appears to have truly found his rhythm as a professional, but a top-tier test still awaits him.
If Whittaker steps into the ring in October, it will mark his third fight within a six-month period.
