The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has fined Barcelona €602 following an investigation into an illegal approach for Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez, reports Mundo Deportivo. Atlético submitted formal complaints to both the Spanish FA and FIFA on June 30, accusing the Catalan club of opening negotiations with the player without prior written notice. Disciplinary proceedings were officially opened by the federation on July 30.

Following the investigation, the breach was classified as minor. Barcelona were subsequently handed the maximum penalty permitted under Article 133 of the RFEF Disciplinary Code.

In 2019, Barcelona were famously hit with a €300 fine after Atlético Madrid lodged a similar complaint over the tapping-up of Antoine Griezmann.
