Barcelona is reportedly considering a move for striker Luis Suarez if their pursuit of Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez falls through, according to Fabrizio Romano. However, this isn't the former Uruguayan star who graced the Camp Nou, but rather the Colombian goalscorer currently plying his trade for Sporting CP.
According to the transfer expert, the Spanish champions would only activate their interest in Suarez if they fail to reach an agreement with Atletico for Alvarez by next week. Furthermore, Sporting has no intention of parting ways with the 28-year-old, who is a pivotal figure for them. Therefore, Barcelona would need to trigger his hefty €80 million release clause if they wish to secure his signature.
Suarez boasts extensive experience in Spain, having played for Granada, Valladolid, Gimnastic, Zaragoza, Granada, and Almeria. With the latter, he even finished as La Liga 2's top scorer in the 2024/25 season. Last summer, the Lisbon giants acquired him for approximately €28 million, and the Colombian international repaid their faith with an impressive 38 goals and 9 assists in 54 appearances during his debut campaign at the club.
