Avdija the Decisive Factor! Spurs Lose Wembanjama and the Game, Portland Snags a Road Win

Wembanjama was diagnosed with a concussion after hitting his head on the court. The Frenchman did not return after the injury in the second quarter and entered the NBA's concussion protocol – meaning he will have to rest for the next 48 hours, making his availability for the next game questionable.

However, it seemed the Spurs could win without him, as they held a 14-point lead early in the final quarter. But their offense completely stalled thereafter.

Portland held San Antonio scoreless from the field for the final 3:37 minutes, as the Blazers closed out the game with an 11-2 run. Robert Williams sealed the victory with a dunk 12 seconds from the end, giving Portland a 104-101 lead after Deni Avdija drove through the paint and dished him the ball.

The Spurs had won 76 consecutive playoff games when leading by 14 or more points in the fourth quarter. The last time they lost under such circumstances was on May 19, 2003, against Dallas.

Scoot Henderson led Portland with 31 points (5-of-9 from three-point range).

"As a team, as a unit, I think that was our goal – to be aggressive. To hit anyone who comes through the paint, to get out and play fast. I think that was all our success and that somehow opened up space for all of us," Henderson stated.

Jrue Holiday contributed 16 points and nine assists, Avdija scored 14, and Williams finished with 11.

Stephon Castle led the Spurs with 18 points, and De'Aaron Fox added 17. Devin Vassell, who ended with 16 points and 12 rebounds, missed a three-pointer with two seconds remaining.
