Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his disappointment following the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City. This loss has significantly tightened the Premier League title race, with the gap between the two teams now just three points, and the "Citizens" holding a game in hand. Despite this, Arteta remains optimistic that his team will ultimately triumph and reiterated his belief in his squad.
"I believe today, I believed on Wednesday, and I believed a week ago, because I see them every day and I know our level. But today, if the players needed to be more convinced, I think they are even more convinced now. They were talking about it in the dressing room. Now this is a new situation. They have a game in hand. We have a three-point lead and five games left. So there's a lot to play for. We won't stop and we'll keep going, that's for sure," Arteta began.
He stated that his team played for the win in this match.
"We came here to win the game. I think the message was clear for the past three days. We prepared to do it, to take the game into the areas where we believed we could win it. We certainly did, even though we started the game a goal down and psychologically had to play with that. We managed it. So we proved we are at that level. But the reality is that today the difference was in both penalty boxes, and that decided the game," the Spaniard added.
However, he once again emphasized his complete faith in his players.
"I mean, if I had to choose the players to win the Premier League with five games left in our hands and be in a Champions League final, I think I should stay at home. So that's not the case. It's not necessary. It has never been necessary, even in difficult moments," the specialist concluded.
