Arsenal's Surprising New Move: Champions Begin Talks for Quansah

Arsenal has initiated talks with Bayer Leverkusen regarding a potential transfer for defender Jarell Quansah, according to Sky Sports. Mikel Arteta is looking to bolster his squad with a new defender due to William Saliba's injury and Jurrien Timber's recurring issues. Consequently, the club is seeking a versatile player who can operate both centrally and on the right side of the defense. Previously, the Gunners were linked with Ezri Konsa and Jules Kounde. Their new target is former Liverpool defender Quansah, who enjoyed a strong debut season in Germany and featured in three World Cup matches for England this summer, primarily deployed as a right-back.

Liverpool holds an option to re-sign Quansah this summer, but it comes with a hefty price tag of £70 million. This clause drops to £52 million next summer.

Bayer acquired the defender for £30 million a year ago. It remains unclear whether the Leverkusen management has set a specific asking price for the 23-year-old.
