The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it’s not surprising that Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Malam Lanre Isa-Onilu said this on Friday following Obaseki’s defection to the opposition party.

Isa-Onilu said, “It has not come to us as a surprise. We knew he had defected long ago because he resigned his membership of the party, which we have accepted. So, you can’t defect twice.

“So, if he is defecting again, we don’t know whether what he has just done now is news any longer.”

Obaseki decided to defect to the PDP after he was disqualified from participating in the APC governorship primary as a result of discrepancies in his credentials.

Days after his disqualification, the governor resigned his membership of the party and also declared that his next move would be announced in a few days.

After a series of meetings with governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Obaseki joined the opposition party on Friday, June 19, 2020.
