American Journalist Attacks Nikola Jokic: Scandalous Statement Ignites Social Media!
Appearing on a highly-rated show, Broussard didn't mince words, attempting to elevate the young San Antonio Spurs star at the expense of the current NBA leader.
"Nikola might want to and try, but he's not capable"
"I'm putting all ten fingers on the table and saying Wembanyama is the best player in the world. His defense is a level Jokic will never reach, and offensively, he's becoming unstoppable," Broussard declared.
While Wembanyama is undoubtedly a generational talent and a "physical anomaly" rarely seen, Broussard's argument crumbles at the first test of reality. As Jokic toys with defenses, racks up triple-doubles with ease, and leads the Nuggets to new successes, Broussard focuses exclusively on the young Frenchman's blocks.
"Nikola was great, but Victor wants to guard the best players and is equipped for it. Nikola might want to and try, but he's not capable of it. When I see what Jordan, Kobe, LeBron, Kareem... all of them did, they would guard the best players. When the game was on the line, they were matched up with the best. Jokic barely guarded Wembanyama, except on switches, and Victor scored 34 points, had more rebounds, and blocked Nikola twice. Look, the offensive difference wasn't that big, but defensively it was huge. Jokic pushed Gordon to guard Wembanyama," Broussard added.
Social media erupted after this statement. Comments like "Is Broussard watching the same basketball as us?" and "This is a classic American attempt to dethrone the king to push a new project" dominated under the show's clip. It seems the desire for sensationalism outweighed common sense, as comparing a player who has just entered the league to a man who has redefined the center position and brought a championship to Denver is, to say the least, unserious.
Chris Broussard got what he wanted – attention. But on the court, things look different. While Wemby is learning the ropes, Nikola Jokic is giving masterclasses. And as long as that remains the case, any comparison of this type will remain just empty talk designed to boost the ratings of American TV shows.
