In a Matchday 3 clash of Spain's La Liga, Alavés secured a narrow but crucial 1-0 victory over Villarreal. The lone and decisive goal of the encounter came from Lucas Boyé (31'). This win solidifies the hosts' strong start to the campaign, while the crisis deepens for the visiting "Yellow Submarine," who are still searching for their first win of the new season.

The game began tactically, but in the 31st minute, Alavés managed to strike. Ángel Pérez made an excellent run to the byline, delivering a precise cut-back pass to Lucas Boyé, who, from close range, made no mistake and slotted the ball into the net for a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the home side came agonizingly close to doubling their advantage. In the 69th minute, Ángel Pérez found himself in an excellent position behind the opposition defense and unleashed a powerful low shot, but the ball cannoned off the post.

Villarreal had their chances in the match but were denied by the brilliant goalkeeper Antonio Sivera, who made several vital saves. The most impressive came in the 83rd minute when substitute Ayose Pérez struck a superb volley, but the home keeper displayed incredible reflexes to tip it over the bar.

Just two minutes later, in the 85th minute, sheer misfortune robbed the visitors of a goal in one of the most dramatic moments of the game. A shot from defender Juan Foyth struck the right post, and from the ensuing rebound at close range, Renato Veiga also had no luck, hitting the left post of the open goal.

Following this success, Alavés temporarily climbs to a respectable 1st place in La Liga with 7 points. Villarreal, on the other hand, remains in the bottom half of the table, occupying 12th position with a meager 2 points after the first three rounds.
