Jofre Torrents has completed a move from Barcelona to Ajax, both clubs announced on Tuesday. The 19-year-old defender signed a long-term contract with the Amsterdam side after successfully passing his medical. Ajax will pay 5.5 million euros, including bonuses, for the Spanish left-back, with Barcelona retaining a 50 percent sell-on clause for any future transfer.
"Barcelona expresses its gratitude to Jofre Torrents for his commitment, professionalism, and dedication throughout his years wearing the club's jersey. We wish him much luck and success in this new stage of his professional career," the Spanish champions stated on their official website.
Initially, Torrents will feature for Ajax's reserve team, with the player's ambition to establish himself as a starter in the first team of the four-time European champions in the near future. The Spanish youth international has made three appearances for Barcelona's senior squad.
