According to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, 85 countries have submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language 89th Oscar category.

The 85 countries include "Algeria," "Egypt," "Lebanon," with Yemen as a first-time entrant.
The Academy will curtail the list to a shortlist which will be announced alongside other Oscar nominations on January 24, 2016 at Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
