According to a Reuters report, the mobile game, created by Nintendo, has gone on to earn $21 million in gross sales.

However, reports also say the mobile game is struggling with  adopting paying users, something that has dragged Nintendo's shares down to a one-month low.

“Mario is arguably the most popular gaming franchise in the world, yet we see only about 8 percent of those who try the game actually purchasing it,” says Sensor Tower analyst Spencer Gabriel, according to the Reuters report.

At the time of writing this article, Super Mario Run is currentkly enjoying an average 2.5/5 App Store rating. “This is a fee app disguised as a free app,” said one reviewer. “You need to pay after playing for 10 minutes. I don’t mind paying but the fee is a bit big. It’s a disappointment after waiting with so much expectation.”

According to Nintendo representatives, the pricing is “designed to reassure parents that they would be charged just once, not multiple times, [when kids download the game].”

Super Mario Run is now available in Nigeria via Apple's App Store.
