According to Daily Post, APC’s spokesman, Lanre Issa-Onilu said the party will not allow any individual put his or her selfish ambition above the wish of the people.
The crowd was booing, jeering and throwing objects at leaders of the party who came to the podium to speak.
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) had to protect President Buhari from being hit by the objects.
It got worse when the APC chairman, Adams Oshiomhole tried to introduce the party’s governorship candidate, Dapo Abiodun.
Abiodun’s choice did not go down well with the Ogun state Governor, Ibikunle Amosun who is sponsoring his candidate, Adekunle Akinlade to run for Governor on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
APC condemns the incident
Condemning the incident, Issa-Onilu called on the ruling party’s supporters not to be deterred by Monday’s incident.
He said “The APC will not condone acts of indiscipline, indiscretion and anti-party activities from any party member no matter how highly placed.
“The party will review this gross misconduct of deliberately positioning thugs to attack and embarrass the President and the party leadership. The party will take a decision on this matter immediately after the elections.
“It must be stated that party supremacy and discipline according to our constitution are not matters of choice but binding principles which must be adhered to by all party members.
“Therefore, whatever means being presently deployed by persons intending to undermine the wishes of the people for personal gains will not be tolerated.
“We urge our teeming party supporters and members not to be disturbed by Monday’s condemnable incident.
“We urge all to continue trooping out enmasse for our remaining campaigns and vote massively for all and only APC candidates in the forthcoming general elections.”
Following the incident in Ogun state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Buhari to read the sign on the wall, saying that the people have rejected the APC.
