2023: Sowore reacts to Okupe’s declaration of support for Peter Obi
Presidential aspirant and founder of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, on Thursday, April 07, 2022, aimed a dig at Doyin Okupe, who recently pledged support for Peter Obi's presidential aspiration.
Recall in 2018, Okupe revealed why former Kwara State Governor, Bukola Saraki and Kingsley Moghalu, former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), should lead Nigeria.
He said the pair should be allowed to rule Nigeria because they are “intellectual people with vast experiences.”
But last week, Okupe who was also a presidential aspirant, dropped from the race, announcing his support for the ambition of ex-governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi.
Okupe also enjoined all other PDP aspirants from the South including Dele Momodu, Pius Anyim, and Nyesom Wike to team up with Obi, who is from the South-East geopolitical zone.
Seemingly reacting to that development, Sowore made a Facebook post, saying, “The people who used to swear by Kingsley Moghalu then are now with @Peter Obi. What happened? We told you then and now, there is nothing better than consistency!”
While making his decision known at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, at Abeokuta in Ogun State, Okupe enjoined other presidential aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to emulate him, as it is the turn of the Southeast to produce Nigeria’s next president.
