Designer and celebrity stylist Abbyke Domina talks on bringing her art to life

As she prepares for her very first Trunk Show in collaboration with Polo Avenue, Abbyke Domina reveals the secrets to her success.

When did you first discover you love of fashion?

I discovered my love for fashion from my growing up days. I had always wanted to look good among my peers and I always wanted to be the person wearing the best of clothes in a party.

When it comes to designing, talk us through your creative process?

I love to do lots of research, I go through past fashion trends, I know how to bring back old styles to life and reinvent them in a fresh and innovative way. I get creative through some lifestyles around me. I love to design new things and style is important to me because it's also my avenue to showcase my creativity.

What feeds your creativity?

I will say research, that's what feeds my creative ideas.

How did this collaboration the Polo Avenue come about and why did you choose them to work with in particular?

I had always wanted to work with Polo Avenue, this is not the first time we have had opinions about doing a collaboration together, but at first it didn't happen, but now it's happening because it's time.

I guess I brought something interesting to their table again. So it was a good offer, and the Très Chic collection is a big deal, it's something that hasn't been done in the fashion industry, and Polo is huge when it comes to luxury brands, so it was a good idea to collaborate with them.

Who have been some of your favourite celebrities to work with?

I bring life to all I do, even if it doesn't seem interesting, so I don't really think about having a favorite celebrity to work with. But one thing I will always look out for is working with those who will definitely sell my brand and represent it well.

How did you get into styling and what have been your most memorable projects?

I love to share my ideas, I feel styling is the only way to communicate with others and an avenue for which my definition of fashion and style can be found. My favorite project will have to be this Très Chic Collection.

Where do you see your brand in the next 5 years?

I will always work hard every single day. I really can't speak about five years from now, but one thing I will always do is improve daily.

What advice would you give to budding designers who are looking to make their mark on an overly-saturated industry?

My advice will be patient , do what you love, do it for the passion, so even on your low days, it's that passion that will always keep you going.

What do you want people to take away from this trunk show?

I want people to go back home and reflect on the fun, the inspiration, and the shopping.
