Driver and bus conductor duo charged for robbing policeman

Quadri Usman, 22, and Tobi Olatubosun, 20, who allegedly attempted to stole a laptop from a police officer, were on Friday arraigned before an Oshodi Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Usman, and Olatubosun, who are driver and bus conductor respectively, are facing trial for conspiracy and intent to commit felony.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 11 at Oshodi.

Kehinde said that the accused and other accomplices still at large conspired to snatch a laptop from one Siji Ogunniji, a police officer.

“The accused and three others approached the complainant when he alighted from a bus, they snatched his computer bag that contained his laptop. They ordered him to surrender his money and cell phone not knowing he is a policeman, but the complainant brought out his service pistol. They took to their heels but the accused were apprehended while the other three escaped,” he said.

Olatunde said that the complainant’s laptop, some stolen cell phones and other items were recovered from the accused.

“When the police searched the accused, they found on them different types of cell phones that were allegedly stolen that day ,” he said.

Olatunde said that the offences contravened Sections 306 and 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Section 306 prescribes a five-year jail term as penalty for offenders.

The accused pleaded not guilty. The Magistrate, Mr Akeem Fashola, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety each in like sum.

Fashola then adjourned the case till July 6 for mention.
