A Chinese man and woman ‘interrogated’ a rat on camera for stealing bananas by tying its hands and legs to the side of a water bottle.

The rodent was bound by its legs while the woman, thought to be from Chengdu, southwest China, asked if it enjoyed eating bananas and has any accomplices, reports the People's Daily online.

Almost 80,000 people have commented on the video with conflicting views after it was uploaded yesterday on the Chinese website 163.com.

According to People’s Daily, the woman caught the mouse at heir home and bound it up with string.

‘Are the bananas tasty?’ she asks.

Do you have any accomplices?’

Completely helpless and unable to escape, the mouse is then whipped and shouted at by the unidentified woman together with another male voice.

An anonymous user from Guangdong, southeast China, posted: ‘We all have our different means of living. The mouse looks so cute, but I’ll still freak out if I see one in real life.’

'Zyophthal' felt sorry for the mouse: ‘Don’t harm it, it only does it to survive. Poor mouse.’

'Lmczew' said: ‘The mouse looks so cute. It looks like Stuart little.’

However, one person called 'Kuai 8' thought the mouse got what it deserved: ‘Whoever said the mouse is has not been troubled by mice before. Those little things, I could kill them a million times.’

One user using the handle ‘111419632’ said the woman ‘doesn’t seem intelligent’ and added that there was ‘no necessity to film this and upload it online.’

‘Animals are living things too,’ they wrote.
