One has person died, while six others sustained injuries in varying degrees in an accident involving a petrol tanker and four vehicles at Owode Junction on Saturday, according to The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, in Ota, Ogun State.
The Unit Commander of FRSC in the state, Mr Leye Adegboyega, told the News Agency of Nigeria, in Ota that the accident occurred around 5.30am due to the carelessness of the tanker driver.
He added that a loaded petrol tanker coming from Lagos and heading to Abeokuta lost control and rammed into four vehicles which caught fire immediately.
He also said that the fire from the tanker spread to the neighbouring houses and property worth millions of naira were lost in the inferno.
Wale Olaitan, the driver of the tanker, lost his life while six others, four males and two females, sustained various degrees of injuries.
Adegboyega said:
"The corpse of the victim had been deposited at the mortuary at Ifo General hospital, Ogun, while other victims were referred to Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, for intensive treatment."
