Akolade Arowolo being led away by Prison Officials after his conviction

According to Punch, Arowolo who was found guilty of murdering his banker wife, Titilayo by stabbing her 73 times in the Isolo residence in 2011, was sentenced to death in 2014 and has been in the Kirikiri Maximum Prison awaiting a date with the hangman.

However, he has appealed to the Governor alongside other inmates sought for pardon under the State Prerogative on Mercy conferred on the Governor, claiming they are reformed and should be given another chance to right his wrongs.

Arowolo who says he is now a pastor made the appeal when the Committee on Prerogative on Mercy paid a visit to the prison to access the situation of the inmates and to see who is worthy of a pardon under the prerogative of mercy.

The committee led by Professor Oyelowo Oyewo was set up by the Governor to review their applications in a bid to decongest the prisons in the state.

The committee was on a fact-finding visit to the prisons to have first-hand information from the inmates that are eligible for mercy and pardon.

Arowolo, who delivered a remark on behalf of his fellow inmates, pleaded for mercy, stressing that they are all remorseful and have learned from their mistakes.

Responding, Prof. Oyelowo, said the governor will act on the committee’s recommendations based on the rules and guidelines set by law for the committee to conduct its work.

The then jobless Arowolo had, on June 24, 2011, allegedly stabbed his then pregnant wife and mother of his daughter to death following an argument.
