Rapist jailed 35 years for molesting 17-yr-old girl in Delta State

A man who organized the gang-rape of a school girl has been sentenced to 35 years imprisonment.

It was justice at last for a 17-year-old secondary school girl in Asaba, Delta State, as the man who brutally raped her, Chukwu Ebuka Sunday, was sentenced to 35 years in jail with hard labour.

Sunday and five of his friends, had, on November 23, 2012, at Akwuebulu Quarters in Asaba, the state capital, abducted the girl and gang-raped her while she was on an errand for her mother.

The sentenced was also without an option of fine.

The convict and his gang had allegedly ambushed the victim and harassed her sexually because she had refused to have a relationship with him.

According to reports Sunday gang had seized the girl by her skirt and dragged her into their compound and locked the gate.

He then brought out a cutlass and threatened to kill her before he forcibly pushed her into his room and raped her, after which his friends took turns with her.

Sunday however denied the three-count charge of conspiracy to commit rape, rape and demanding money with threat.

But the judge, Justice Nduka Obi averred that the prosecution was able to establish the essential ingredients of the offence against the convict and sentenced him accordingly.
