Cultists hold Ogudu to ransom in weekend of blood

Rival cult groups unleashed untold terror on residents of Ogudu in Lagos State, leaving in their wake blood, sorrow and tears.

A rivalry between cult members

By the time a semblance of sanity returned, three bodies were discovered while several cars, shops and other valuable property worth millions of naira were consumed.

According to eyewitnesses, the reign of terror began when a top member of a cult group was hacked to death in the Sandfield area in Ori Oke. It was gathered that the victim had been on the run for many months after he had killed a rival gang member and was traced to the area where he was killed and his body brought to Epetedo Street where his group hold sway.

The following day, members of the group, which the victim belonged to who refer to themselves as Landlords' Sons, stormed Gafari Street and went on rampage, destroying parked vehicles, wielding axes, machetes and guns. When they were done, another rival was mowed down.

As if that was not enough, the body of a commercial motorcyclist identified as Ahmadu, was found butchered with speculations being that he was the one who conveyed the group that committed the Sandfield murder, to the scene.

The ongoing battle, according to residents, have left social and business life in the area disturbed, as the police from the nearby Area H Division seem to be helpless. It is being rumoured that the police have not been able to act because anytime they make any arrest, the Oba of Ogudu will send an order for the suspect to be released and the next day, he will be back in the streets.

It is left to be seen when and how peace and calm will return to the once serene Ogudu area.
