A 37-year-old man has been arrested by the police in Ogun State for allegedly beating his young son to death.

Razak Adekoya and the late Waris

Punch reports that the incident happened in the Ago Iwoye area of the state on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, leading to the arrest of Adekoya by policemen from the Ago Iwoye Division.

It was gathered that the late boy identified as Waris, had been tortured on different occasions by Adekoya and some elders in the community had warned the father against the act but he did not stop.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the incident, said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the suspect be charged to court immediately.

“Members of the community where the suspect lived, gave the police a tip-off. The community accused the man of subjecting the boy to excessive beating.

Preliminary investigation revealed several marks on the body of the deceased boy as a result of series of torture from the suspect.

The corpse has been deposited at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital Mortuary, Oke-Agbo, Ijebu Igbo.

CP Iliyasu has ordered that the suspect is transferred to the Homicide Section of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Abeokuta, for further investigation,” ASP Oyeyemi said.

It was also learned from a resident of the area that the late boy's mother abandoned his father because of incessant beating, leaving the deceased with his father, not knowing he would beat him to death.
