Shomolu residents in panic following return of notorious killer

A notorious killer who was arrested by the police a few weeks ago in the Shomolu area for multiple murders has been released to return to the community.

The arrested killer, Small Jpron

Sahara Reporters gathers that Balogun, a notorious cultist, and self-confessed murderer, had been arrested and held in the custody of the police at the Panti Police Division after months of evading the law, but on Monday, October 10, 2016, he was seen attending a welcome party organized for him by his gang members.

He was allegedly heard boasting that he has a list of the people who fingered him to the police and would go after them one after the other.

It was learnt that Balogun was granted bail by an Ogba Elefo Magistrate's Court sitting in Ebute Metta in the state after some powerful politicians in the area mounted pressure on the police to release him.

A resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the return of the deadly serial killer has instilled fear into the people and many have started leaving the area for fear of what he and his gang are capable of doing.

"In November 2012, Small JPron held a party to mark his return from police custody, an event that resulted in a clash between his gang and another confraternity in the neighborhood.

The clash resulted in injuries to many residents and destruction of more than 10 cars. With his reputation for violence, it has come as a shock to the residents of Shomolu why Small JPron has been allowed back into the community."

Another resident confirmed the fears of the people, noting Balogun's propensity for violence and the backing of powerful politicians in the area.

“His deputy is still at Ikoyi Prisons for the offence, but he that is a serial killer is now released because of the local government election coming up. He was slapped with a minor charge at Panti, instead of murder charges,” the resident said.

The 29-year-old Balogun was arrested on August  20, 2016, for the murder of five people during a cult war in Bariga area of the state.

The police also accused him of setting fire to a house in which a 65-year-old woman, Adejoke Adefuye, was burnt to death.

Before then, he was alleged to have killed one James Eremiye, an elder in the Ilaje community in Bariga, and blinded a man at Odo Eran in the same area.
