FG approves new University for Nigerian Army

The Military university which will be based in Borno state is the 163rd universty in Nigeria

The university was approved on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at the Federal Executive Council Meeting, in Abuja.

According to reports, the new institution will be located in Biu, Borno state.

The approval follows the presentation of a memo by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, Premium Times reports.

Adamu announced the approval while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting of the council.

Earlier in March, the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, a lieutenant general, had announced that the Nigerian Army will upgrade the Institute of Technology and Environmental Studies to a full fledge University of Technology and Environmental Studies.

“The university was conceived as a unique one that will be different from conventional universities in Nigeria.

“The concept is to make it a solution provider and a centre of excellence for a variety of technologically related ventures such as generation and armament production,” the army chief said.

Nigeria now has 163 universities

Approval of the Military University increases the total number of universities in Nigeria to 163.

Recall that on Monday, March 12, the National Universities Commission approved Zamfara State University as the 47th state-owned university and 162nd in Nigeria.

The Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof  Abubakar Rasheed announced the approval during a meeting with the Governor of Zamfara, Abdulaziz Yari state in Abuja.
