Bolt also updated prices for base fares, minimum fares, and per kilometre and minute fees earlier this year.

Ride-hailing service, Bolt, says riders will now be paying a 3% booking fee on all trips, starting December 8, 2021.

The company said, in an email sent to customers, that the fee is in recognition of changes in operating costs.

"This will be used to cover operational costs and allow us to continue improving features to make Bolt the best way to move around," the email read.

The operational costs cover insurance coverage on rides, driver biometric verification, 24/7 support, and free in-app calls and chat functionality.

E-hailing drivers in Nigeria have repeatedly mounted pressure on Bolt, and rival Uber, that fares be increased to reflect the country's economic realities.

Bolt earlier this year updated prices for base fares, minimum fares, and per kilometre and minute fees.

The company said the slight increase was due to recent changes to driver operating costs.
