Football body bans Equatorial Guinea female national team

Following a complaint by Mali, who lost 3-2 to the team, CAF decided to take stricter measures against Equatorial Guinea, which led to the 3-year suspension.

Equatorial Guineas female national team have been given a 3-year ban for presenting an ineligible player for the Africa Women Cup of Nations.

The suspension came after world football governing body, FIFA, banned them in April 2016.

According to reports, Camila Maria do Carmo Nobre de Oliveira who plays for the team had some inconsistencies with her birth certificate and passport.

Following a complaint by Mali, who lost 3-2 to the team, CAF decided to take stricter measures as a response.

According to the BBC News, the player in question “registered for the Women AFCON Namibia 2014 as Camila Maria Nobre Carmo with date of birth: 07/10/1994 and for the 2016 edition, her date of birth stated 10/06/1988 and the name Camila Nobre do Carmo Oliviera”.

The football association of the country admitted to fielding the player, which led to their replacement by Mali in the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations, to be hosted by Cameroon.
