A new Chief Imam of Osogbo has emerged.
78-year-old Musa Animashaun was selected as the 17th Chief Imam of Osogbo, succeeding Mustapha Ajisafe who died on September 8 at the age of 87.
The installation ceremony of the new Imam, Sheik Animahaun had prominent personalities including Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, Asiwaju Musulumi in Yorubaland, Alhaji Tunde Badmus, in attendance.
The Nation reports that at the installation ceremony, Chief Imam of University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulganiyu Oladosu, called on government at all levels to correct the imbalance against the Muslims in appointments into public offices in the country.
He also called on adherents of other religions and Muslims alike to learn to live together in peace.
According to him, “more specifically, the imbalances in the representation of Muslims in federal and state appointments should be addressed and adequately redressed.
“It is hoped that contemporary Muslims and Christians would work together for a united states of Nigeria which has been the dream of the founding fathers of the country.
“Since God did not create all human beings to belong to one religion, everybody must respect the beliefs of others for peace to reign.” He said since there would never be a time when all human beings in the world would be members of one religion, adherents of various religions must learn to be tolerant and accommodating.
“To enjoy our potentialities, as adherents of different faiths, we should be tolerant, accommodating, large hearted and open minded. This is the only way to avoid the kind of crisis being witnessed in Jos, Maiduguri, Bauchi and in many other parts of the world,” he said.
