In a sweeping political shift, all Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members of the House of Representatives from Delta State have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, announced the change on Tuesday, May 6, during plenary.
The move follows the recent defections of former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and current Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who both abandoned the PDP for the ruling APC during a high-level stakeholders meeting in Asaba.
The defections have intensified speculation about a growing exodus from Nigeria's main opposition party.
2 governors, 40 lawmakers to exit PDP for APC
"Two more state governors and 40 lawmakers on the platform of the PDP will soon defect," said Ikenga Ugochinyere, a House member from Imo State, pointing to what could be a deeper crisis within the party.

Despite the mounting defections, PDP stalwart and former Senate President Bukola Saraki expressed optimism about the party’s future.
“The PDP will be repositioned. Those who want to defect are free to leave,” he said, downplaying the impact of the departures.
PDP on brink of decline
The mass defection from Delta, a traditional PDP stronghold, represents a significant win for the APC ahead of upcoming elections and signals a potential realignment of political power in the South-South region.
Observers say the coordinated exits underscore growing discontent within the PDP’s leadership ranks and raise questions about the party’s national cohesion and electoral prospects.
With key figures like Okowa and Oborevwori shifting allegiance, the political landscape in Delta and beyond appears poised for transformation, as the APC consolidates its grip on power.
