Nigerians react to news that monarch’s ‘abobaku’ has escaped

Rampant reports have it that a man who’s supposed to be buried with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade has fled for dear life.

The ‘abobaku’ is a Yoruba term for one who has been chosen to die with a king.

The unnamed abobaku’s escape is said to be stalling burial rites for the late monarch who died on July 28, 2015, in the United Kingdom.

This curious tale is currently trending on social media but there has been no official confirmation of the report and we doubt there’ll be.
