Inibehe Effiong, a human rights lawyer and activist, has demanded N100 million compensation from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) over the arrest of Alabi Quadri.
Quadri went viral ahead of the 2023 general elections after appearing in a photo where he stood in front of the convoy of the then-Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
However, things went south for the 17-year-old in January, after he was arrested by the police and subsequently sent to Kirikiri prison over "trumped-up" charges bordering on armed robbery.
However, Quadri's family has vehemently rejected the allegation, affirming their son's innocence.

On Thursday, April 17, 2025, an Apapa Magistrates' Court freed the minor following the legal advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Dr. Babajide Martins.
Addressing journalists after the ruling given by Magistrate Adetola Olorunfemi, Effiong commended the DPP for standing by the truth in this matter.

Meanwhile, the human rights lawyer asked the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, and the Inspector General of Police to, as a matter of urgency, remove the Divisional Police Officer of Amukoko Divisional Headquarters and subject him to an orderly room trial, along with the IPO, Inspector Odigbe Samuel.
At the same time, he demanded a similar treatment for other officers who participated in what he called the “evil, sinister, oppressive, and corrupt scheme of framing-up a teenager for armed robbery at the behest of rogue ‘Area Boys’”.
He also demanded that the police authorities tender a public apology to his client.

Effiong warned that if the three demands are not fully complied with immediately, he and the team of lawyers will initiate legal actions to seek redress.
“There are many Quadris languishing in detention centres across Nigeria because of the unbridled criminality, lawlessness, and lack of accountability in the Police institution and the weakness of the justice system. History will vindicate the just," the lawyer stated.
