This 'Bel-Air' Trailer Is the Grittiest Version of 'Fresh Prince' You Didn't Know You Needed
Cooper started working on Bel-Air six months ago, in collaboration with Sun Squared Media. The opening conflict of the original series, rapped about light-heartedly in the opening credits by Will Smith, is transformed here into a gritty take on gang violence and police brutality which sees young Will (played by Jerry Madison) dodge jail-time by agreeing to move in with hard-ass Uncle Phil.
This is excellence in a single video. https://t.co/tbmZ7L9taD - Maiku (@MrMaikuWong) March 13, 2019
A lot of familiar characters make appearances: Wills cousin and sidekick Carlton is revamped as a privileged antagonist who doesnt want him there; Aunt Vivian is the same voice of support that she was in the original; and the actor playing Jazz could have been lifted directly out of an episode of the original. (Wills other cousins, Hilary and Ashley Banks, also make brief cameos.)
Whoa. I'd fund this reimagined "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" 100 times. https://t.co/GEohqrYAUP - Brad Lucas (@TheCreativeBrad) March 12, 2019
So far the trailer has racked up more than 970,000 views, with a number of viewers praising Coopers vision and tweeting that they want it to be picked up by a studio and turned into a real movie.
