Wardog-who recently headed to Extinction Island after being voted out-has been quite a polarizing castaway this season, and fans switch between groaning at his mannerisms to respecting him for this pretty great gameplay. In fact, he's so polarizing that host Jeff Probst said he almost wasn't cast on the show.

"Wardog is a polarizing player. He was polarizing to us in casting as well. In fact, it took one of our casting producers stepping up and saying 'I will fall on the sword for Wardog' that ultimately got him on the show," he explained to Entertainment Weekly .

Ruffle some feathers I shall Jeff! Oh and special shoutout to my dope ass casting producer you know who you are! https://t.co/XTpIbKUkE6 - The Wardog (@IAmTheWardog) April 25, 2019

But Probst also feels that they ultimately made the right choice in casting the Army veteran on the show.

"Were so happy [the producer] stepped up to fight for him, as he has proven to be a very compelling, enigmatic player," Probst said. "I think Wardog is definitely a manipulator, whether hes a master manipulator is up for debate. Hes definitely not subtle. But as he showed, you can be aggressive with your approach, you can even ruffle feathers, so long as your approach connects with enough others who want the same thing."
