The Big Apple aka New York city is known for its bright lights, fast pace and a place where dreams come true.

Indeed, the many attractions of New York have been exalted severally in songs and movies including the hit 2010 song, 'Empire State of Mind' by Jay Z and Alicia Keys.

But before New York became the "concrete jungle where dreams are made of", it was a city brimming with huge prospects.
