There's nothing more frightening than sudden turbulence in the middle of a flight, indeed it can send chills down the spine of even the most veteran traveller.

Asides the effect it has on the mood of passengers, it can also leave a trail of destruction in its wake as was captured by Reddit user, ollieislame who shared his experience of flight turbulence while aboard an Air New Zealand plane.

“Everything up in the air, wine on the roof. Quite a few screams and general terror,”  the Reddit user added.

The Reddit user says a flight attendant explained what was happening, finishing with a lighthearted, “There is nothing wrong with the plane, yet.”

He said that drew some giggles and helped relieve the tension.

Confirming the incident, an Air New Zealand spokesman said there was “unexpected strong turbulence during the inflight meal service,” and that “this caused some catering items to fall from service carts.”
