A Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, on Friday granted N200, 000 bail to a commercial bus conductor, Herbert Nwodo, 34, docked for allegedly stealing passenger’s goods worth N264, 000.

The judge, Ibrahim Shekarau, ordered the defendant, who pleaded not guilty to produce one surety in like sum.

‎Shekarau also ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the case till April 11 for hearing.

Nwodo, who resides at No. 34, Njiakor St., Awada Onitsha, Anambra, is facing a two-count charge of breach of trust and theft.

The defendant works as a conductor with a commercial transport company, that conveys goods to Onitsha from Mararaba.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Hamen Donald, told the court that one Udeh Chika of Masaka U-Turn, Karu, Nasarawa State, reported the matter at A Police Division, Mararaba on March 8 at about 2: p.m.

Donald said that the complainant, a businessman alleged that the accused went contrary to the agreement they had and stole part of his goods valued at N264, 000.

“The complainant said that on March 5, he gave 10 cartons of Rocephin injection to be transported to Onitsha.

“While conveying these goods, the car broke down at AYA, Abuja, and in the process, the accused took one carton of the good to an unknown destination, but was arrested,” Donald said.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 312 and 288 of the Penal Code.
