Manu Tuilagi shifted to wing for second Test against New Zealand

England coach Stuart Lancaster has switched centre Manu Tuilagi to the right wing for Saturday's second Test against New Zealand.

Tuilagi's shift, coupled with the decision to stick with Geoff Parling, Ben Morgan and Rob Webber in the pack, is a bold move by the England coach.

Lancaster has - as expected - brought in Danny Care, Owen Farrell, Billy Twelvetrees, Luther Burrell and Tom Wood following their enforced absence from last weekend's narrow 20-15 loss in Auckland.

There are seven changes in total, including the positional switch of Tuilagi and Marland Yarde who shifts from the right to the left wing to accommodate his team-mate's new role.

Tuilagi, a devastating ball carrier, will start opposite All Blacks winger Julian Savea in what should be an enthralling match-up.

The retention of lock Parling, number eight Morgan and hooker Webber ahead of Courtney Lawes, Billy Vunipola and Dylan Hartley, respectively, is especially significant as it shows that Lancaster is not afraid to reward performance over reputation.

Lawes, Vunipola and Hartley will all start on the bench alongside last Saturday's halves pairing of Freddie Burns and Ben Youngs.

They have been replaced by Farrell and Care, respectively, who last played together in this year's Six Nations.

The midfield combination of Twelvetrees and Burrell is also reunited with Kyle Eastmond making way, while Wood takes over on the blindside flank from former Highlander James Haskell, who misses out on the match-day 23 altogether.

"It's been evident in training all along just how intense competition for places is but especially now we have the guys who arrived at the end of last week," Lancaster said.

"We knew selection for this Test was always going to be tough, with the players who played at Eden Park putting their hands up and those who watched from the stands.

"I am sure it will be a fantastic occasion in Dunedin and we are really looking forward to challenging ourselves against the All Blacks.

"With the Crusaders game coming up around the corner and the third Test in Hamilton, all our squad will get opportunities which will be great experience as we continue to develop our depth in the build up to the World Cup."
