Analysis : Victor Moses is the missing piece of Super Eagles, not Odion Ighalo

Super Eagles Gernot Rohr said he's ready to welcome Al Shabab of Saudi Arabia forward Odion Ighalo back to the Super Eagles.

Ighalo called time on his international career after winning the top scorer award at the AFCON 2019, but has bagged eight goals from nine matches for Al Shabab in the Saudi Arabian Professional League this season.

Rohr said he wants the 32-year-old back, because of his experience and that's understandable, however players should be invited according to the needs of the team.

Presently, the Super Eagles aren't lacking good strikers, but experience and creative wingers who can play good crosses to the strikers.

Since Victor Moses retired from the National Team in 2018, no one has been able to replace him adequately.

Nantes winger Simon Moses and Samuel Kalu are the only wingers in the team, but they are inconsistent and reliable as Victor Moses.

While Kalu is struggling with injury, Simon hasn't justified his playing time recently. The Nantes winger has played the last four matches for the Super Eagles, but failed to make a meaningful impact.

At the moment, the team need a Victor Moses, than a certain Odion Ighalo who has long been replaced by Victor Osimhen

In 2019, Musa who has played with Moses once said the missed the former Chelsea ace and insist that his spot in the team is still available despite the emergence of players like Samuel Kalu, Samuel Chukwueze among others.

“ I miss his presence with the team and I believe he is still needed in this team. You can’t take away what he has done for the team and what he can do for the team if he decides to reverse his decision,” Musa said.

In addition, Moses is still playing at the highest level, and recently, he created two goals for Spartak Moscow against Leicester City last week.

He still has a lot to offer, and it is advisable to invite him ahead of Odion Ighalo.
