Governor Ambode wants to teach 1 million students how to code by 2019

It also plans to launch CodeLagos centres in 500 primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions by April 2017.

According to Obafela Bank-Olemoh, the Governor's special adviser on education, who made the disclosure at a press briefing  in his office, the initiative is aimed at making coding curriculum accessible to every student in Lagos State.

“Our goal for ‘Code Lagos’ program is to teach one million students in Lagos State the basic knowledge involved in computer coding system by 2019. This program will be available to our students from primary to tertiary education level,” he says, according to a Technology Times report.

At the press briefing, the special adviser called on the general public to collaborate with the state government on the project as stakeholders continue to work together to place Lagos State as a tech hub.

With the CodeLagos project, the government hopes to train 1 million students how to code by 2019. It also plans to launch CodeLagos centres in 500 primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions by April 2017.
