Nike said it will only be releasing 89 pairs, which will be raffled off via $10 tickets, with the proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation's research on Parkinson's disease. Michael J. Fox starred in the Back To The Future movie.
Even though you may not get a chance to try out this new technology on the Nike Mags, it is the same technology used in Nike's HyperAdapt shoe, which will be widely available to customers.
Nike Senior Innovator Tiffany Beers, speaking to TechCrunch'sAnthony Ha, talked about the long process it took to make self-lacing a reality - the journey started in 2005.
“Athletes can adjust these on-the-fly,” Beers said. “So time out in basketball, they can let bloodflow go back to the feet. Running performance, you know, if the shoe gets wet or if your foot’s swelling in a marathon, you can just change it.”
The Mags will be available to winners of the raffle the week after the US Thanksgiving celebrations and marks a new era in shoe technology.
