Violence becoming a culture in Nigeria

"This country is accepting the reality that violence is becoming way of life," Shehu Sani said.

Sani stated this at plenary on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, while condemning the killing of about seven people in Kasuwar Magini, Kaduna state, yesterday.

He noted that the unity of Nigeria is not about reciting the national anthem but by strict observance of the laws of the land.

“I want to draw the attention of the senate t an unfortunate situation that happened yesterday Kasuwar Magini in Kaduna state,” Senator Sani said.

“The violence claimed the lives of over 6 to 7 people. Houses were burnt and it was all a season of mayhem. The violence was attributed in every possible way to have youth s who decided to take the law into their hands.

“It has all the elements of a religious violence. Every day you wake up in this country defaced with one form of violence or another. This country is accepting the reality that violence is becoming way of life. It is so unfortunate that every day we wake up to killings, kidnappings and series of violence that shakes the stability and unity of this country in every aspect.

“I use this opportunity to urge on all people who are parties to crisis and violence to know very well that we cannot achieve any meaningful progress as a nation without peace. We should prioritize peace and unity or cohesive between ourselves. The unity of a country is not simply about the reciting of anthems and coat of arms but determination of the people to ensure justice to them and live in harmony with each other.

“I enjoin this senate to sympathize with us Kaduna state and identify us in this trying moment and in any possible way commend the security agencies for the prompt response in bringing an end to mayhem. We must live together as Muslims and Christians as people from different ethno-religious background,” he said.
