President seeks partnership with Ghana to fight corruption

Buhari said this at the 61st Independence anniversary of Ghana, where he was the special guest.

According to Independent News, the Nigerian President also said that corruption has eaten deep into the Nigerian and Ghanaian societies, adding that It is one of the greatest evil of our time.

He said “Your Excellency can be assured that you have a good partner in me as I look forward to any form of collaboration between Nigeria and Ghana in tackling the menace of endemic corruption.

“From Nigeria, I have watched closely your achievements, ranging from your ingenious approach to creating jobs for the teeming youths through various initiatives, including the repositioning of agriculture for modern farming, ‘Farming for Jobs and Food’, Senior High School (SHS) free education, One-District-One-Factory, and One-Village-One-Dam as well as the improvement being recorded in the Republic’s macroeconomic indicators.

“All these efforts, I am aware, have made Ghana to become a good destination for foreign direct investment just like Nigeria. Accept my congratulations!

“I congratulate both the government and the Parliament for the quick passage of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act and its signing into law.

“Given all these public policies, it becomes reassuring that with the right leadership, Africa’s drives to eradicate poverty and to entrench democracy is on course.”

Buhari is AU’s anti-corruption Ambassador

You will recall that Mr. President was named the African Union's Anti-Corruption Year Champion.

He was given the award at the 30th African Union meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Corruption getting worse in Nigeria

According to Transparency International’s latest corruption perception index (CPI) released recently, corruption is getting worse in Nigeria.

In the new report, Nigeria ranked 148 out of 180 countries surveyed across the world.

The new position is a 12 place down from the country’s ranking in 2016 (136).

To many political pundits, this might be a big blow to the anti-corruption campaign of the current administration.
