In 2015, the House of Representatives tried to amend the Federal Road Safety Act.

This amendment would enforce the use of pedestrian bridges.

If passed, offenders would get a fine of N20,000.

Then, the Director of Public Enlightenment in Lagos state, Mr Oluwatoyin Awosika, advised residents to use pedestrian bridges.

"We have done our own survey in the ministry of information and found out that to climb the bridge, the time is even lesser. If you spend a minute to climb the bridge, you would not spend a minute to cross the highway and then it is safer to take it," he said.

Now, the use of pedestrian bridges is being enforced in Lagos state.

These officials forced hundreds of individuals to use the pedestrian bridge to cross to the other side of the road.
