Charly Boy's group to protest for ex-minister's return

Organisers of the 'Resume or Resign' protests have announced a 2-day sit-out protest against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to demand for the extradition of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke.

The group will be campaigning for the return of the minister to answer to the corruption charges of outrageous looting that she has been linked to by the EFCC.

In a statement released by the group, they urged for the anti-graft agency to file for the extradition of the former minister who is away in the United Kingdom so that she can be prosecuted for her crimes.

The group says it's resorting to protests at the agency's headquarters in Abuja because it appears like the government is not doing enough to seek justice against the former minister.

The statement read, "Following recent mind-boggling allegations of corruption and wanton looting of public funds and the collective patrimony of Nigerian citizens by the former Minister for Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke, we call on the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to apply for her extradition from the United Kingdom to face prosecution in Nigeria.

"Furthermore, a Federal High Court has ordered Mrs. Allison-Madueke to permanently forfeit several luxurious properties in several highbrow areas across the country to the Federal Government.

"It is therefore unimaginable that the Federal Government is not pushing for Mrs. Allison-Madueke’s extradition to face punishment for her alleged crimes.

"In this light, we will be holding a 2-day sit out in front of the EFCC Headquarters to demand that the Federal Government applies for her extradition and prosecution in Nigeria. We will also be highlighting the level corruption at the Central Bank of Nigeria.

"Details of the sit out are as follows: Date: Monday 28 & Tuesday 29 August, 2019. Time: 9am-10am daily. Venue: Front of EFCC Office, Wuse 2, Abuja.

"We invite all well-meaning Nigerians to join us and participate in this event."

The statement was signed by the leader of the 'Our Mumu Don Do' group, Charles Oputa, aka Charly Boy, and the leader of the 'Concerned Nigerians' group, Deji Adeyanju.

Allison-Madueke has been linked to a slew of corruption cases, with courts seizing assets and funds that have been suspected to be proceeds of her loot.

On Tuesday, August 22, a Federal High Court in Lagos ordered the interim forfeiture of assets valued at $16,441,906 linked to her.

On Wednesday, August 9, 2017, Justice Chuka Obiozor of a Lagos Federal High Court also ordered the interim forfeiture of the sum of N7,646,700,000 linked to the former minister after the EFCC filed an ex parte application.

This ruling came only days after a Federal High Court, also in Lagos, ordered the permanent forfeiture of a $37.5m Banana Island mansion owned by the former minister on Monday, August 7.

In addition to the building, the court also ordered the permanent forfeiture of the sums of $2,740,197.96 and N84,537,840.70 realised as rents on the property.

On Tuesday, August 8, the EFCC revealed that its operatives discovered boxes of gold, silver and diamond jewellery from the Abuja residences of the former minister.
