Most of the comments to Damilola Osinbajo's engagement has been on the religion of her partner.
The engagement was publicly acknowledged by the Vice President and his wife only yesterday, February 14 2018, when Prof Osinbajo tweeted and shared a post about it on Facebook.
“"With joy and praise to the Lord, Dolly and I announce the betrothal of our daughter Oludamilola Osinbajo to Oluseun Bakare." the announcement reads.
Reactions to the VP’s daughter’s engagement have numerous, and most of the comments made have been about religious differences of the couple.
Recall that VP Osinbajo is an RCCG Pastor and according to biblical teachings, many Nigerians think his daughter, Damilola, who is also Christian should not be marrying a Muslim.
Oluseun Shamsideen Bakare is the son of Muslim billionaire businesswoman, Hajia Bola Shagaya.
This supposed mismatch has caused Nigerians to express various opinions about the upcoming marriage.
Daddy Freeze the outspoken OAP says:
"REDEEMED PASTOR OSHINBAJO’S DAUGHTER SET TO MARRY...
"I congratulate them and sincerely wish them well as they look really happy and in love!
"His name seems Muslim… If it’s normal church rats that want to marry Muslims, they won’t agree o… They will go as far as saying “Allah is not God” and say “let’s not be unequally yoked”.
"But with the political pedigree involved here, I’m sure even the GO and his Mummy will attend.”
Twitter users have also had their say on the matter:
It appears that these opinions maybe wrong.
TVC claims that although Seun is from a muslim background, he’s no longer a Muslim.
He has reportedly converted to Christianity and is now a Sunday school teacher.
But do you think things like religion should still be used against people who want to marry? Would you marry someone of a different religion to yours? Let us know in the poll below:
