When worshippers of the Islamic Center of Pflugerville, Texas, went to open their mosque, they found it had been vandalised in the wake of the Paris attacks.

The front of the building had been defaced and pages torn from the Qur’an.

7-year-old Jack Swanson was walking by with his mum, Laura when they saw the mosque.

She said she was explaining to her son what had happened and he decided to empty his piggy bank.

‘It’s disgusting, it’s gross,’ Laura said of the vandalism. ‘It doesn’t matter what you believe, what I believe, what he believes or anybody believes, all faith is important.’

Faisal Naeem, who sits on the mosque’s board, said he was shocked by the attack and, while he couldn’t be sure, he believed it could be a reaction to what happened in Paris.

While Naeem was giving interviews at the mosque on Monday, he noticed a young boy with his mum watching on.

When he finished speaking, the little boy came over to him and gave him $20 (N4,000) to help with the clean up.

Naeem said: ‘It’s 20 bucks, but coming from Jack collecting his pennies it’s worth 20 million bucks to me and to our community,’

‘This gives me hope because this means it’s not one versus the other.’

Local police are now investigating the vandalism as a hate crime.
