Why must everything be about patriarchy?
Some media houses should stop viewing every story through the lens of patriarchy.
An example of this is the BBC viral interview video that hit social media on Friday. March 10, 2017. We all loved how the professor's kids crashed into his library during his BBC interview. His wife had to scramble into the library with her best ninja impression and took the kids out.
It was a heartwarming and funny video that trended globally. Sadly, not everyone loved the cute video. Patriarchy and misogyny are words which writers have rightly used to fight sexism in the society. Unfortunately, there are some who use these words unjustly.
The website News States Man thinks that the viral video is "patriarchy in a nutshell." Really guys? That's a stretch, a big stretch.
"Here's the worst/best bit of the video. When Mr Pundit doesn't even turn round to acknowledge his child but instead gives the little tyke a gentle shove to get out of the way.
"If a woman had done that, we wouldn't be sharing the video while wiping tears of laughter from our eyes. We'd be knee-deep in a tedious discussion about whether she's a terrible mother and whether her career of Korea Takes was leading her to ignore the small, simple pleasures of watching a child dance like a loon.
"Also - ALSO - Mr Pundit shoves the kid back with the easy reassurance of someone who knows that another person is going to swoop in and deal with the kids. This, you feel, is the kind of guy who refers to looking after his own children as "babysitting" wrote Moley Tant for the website.
Really? What happened to the days when things could be taken for face value. Must there be a deeper angle to everything? In the video, a father wanted to get his kid out from his interview with the BBC. It had nothing to do with patriarchy.
There are some elements who would jump on the feminist movement just for cool points.
The world saw a funny video and a cute family. Those who see patriarchy are deeply lost in the sauce.
