Pastor Sam Adeyemi joins controversial debate

We look at what Pastor Adeyemi, Mike Bamiloye and Apostle Anselm Madubuko have to say about tithing.

Speaking with The Guardian’s Sunday Magazine, the Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre basically states that this is compulsory.

Discussing the issue of where to tithe, he encourages Christians to pay at their churches in order to help out.

In his words, “…The main thing with tithe is that there is a principle. The 10 percent principle predated the laws of Moses; it is a very powerful principle. As to where to pay your tithe, the major thing it was used for before in the Old Testament, though there are other small things, was the running of the temple and maintenance of the priests.

“However, things have now changed. We have churches that have been registered and incorporated with the government, so they need to be run and maintained. So, the average person that is getting value from the church needs to support its existence. It is the fair deal so to speak.

“God’s ordained church needs to take care of the people there. In the New Testament, especially in Acts chapter 2, we saw the apostles making sure that nobody goes to bed hungry, that is the rule we have in our church. So, nobody in this church, no matter their class or where they come from must go to bed hungry. It’s money and resources that we use to do that.”

Pastor Adeyemi urges Christians to turn to God

However, the Pastor goes on to say that believers should seek instruction from God.

He adds, “Now, what I would add is that New Testament Christianity comes with a very powerful principle of freedom, especially when you read the book of Galatians.

“There Paul said: “Don’t let anybody bind you with rope; don’t let anybody bind you with rules that God has not written. Don’t let them import it from the Old Testament … you don’t need to do anything to qualify for God’s grace.

“You can’t pay for it, that is why I would say a Christian can be led by God and God in His sovereignty has the right to instruct a Christian to do anything with his or her tithe. I would say that a Christian should be responsible enough to support the running of the church, where he/she is blessed spiritually.”

Apostle Anselm Madubuko offers his opinion

Pastor Sam Adeyemi may be the latest preacher to discuss tithing but he is not the only one.

The General Overseer of Revival Assembly Church, Apostle Anselm Madubuko has also shared his thoughts on the issue.

Reacting to criticisms from Cool FM OAP, Daddy freeze, he took to Facebook to write, “tithes and offerings don’t buy jets lol…ask the owners and stop believing falsehood.”

Via other posts, he adds, “Real pastors don't depend on tithes and offerings to survive. Rather you need to grow and prosper. It's a principle too.

“Not all pastors were jobless before God wooed them into ministry! Some would have been far richer if they had not answered him#fyi”

His initial statement got a response from the OAP on his Instagram page.

Mike Bamiloye responds to Daddy Freeze’s comments

Daily Post reports that Bamiloye has also reacted to Daddy Freeze’s statements on tithing.

According to the drama minister and founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministry, there is nothing wrong with paying your tithe.

In his words, “I am an Evangelist. I believe strongly in tithes and giving offerings as God commanded in Malachi 3:10. I have believed and practice this for more than 35 years. I pay tithes. My Ministry pays tithes.

“On many occasions, we had laid all we had on the Altar before God. On some Occasions, we had emptied our accounts and laid all before the Lord in obedience to His specific command and in appreciation of His goodness. We believe heavily in tithes and offering, and also in the Biblical Principle of first fruits.

“I have seen marvellous Wonders of God at home and on evangelistic fields as I held on to the Biblical Doctrine of Tithes and Offerings, Sowing and Harvesting. I have been on this for more than 30 years in ministry.

“I pay my tithes and I give my offerings as instructed by God. but it is never and can never be my business, whatever the tithes and offerings are used for. I have given the Tithes and Offerings to God and It is no longer in my care. It is God’s Business to determine if it is well used or not. Not Mine.

“Are you waiting for me to defend my Belief on Tithes from the Bible? What Do I need to defend again, when I saw it in the Bible, even if it is One Verse. I am not a Theologian, and I do not need many Verses from the Bible to know what to do. I am an Evangelist. So, do not wait for me to now begin to table before you an argumentative Bible Study.

“And it is God I have given my tithes because he said, it is him I have robbed if I don’t pay the tithes into his house. Therefore, I have no problem with any pastor or church the Lord leads me to pay my tithes.”
