He's not a team player - Yaya Toure raises alarm over Emmanuel Dennis' Super Eagles invitation
Former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has warned Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen over the invitation of Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis to the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ghana.
Dennis was included in the Super Eagles 32-man squad to prosecute a double-header World Cup qualifier later in the month.
The 24-year-old striker missed out on representing Nigeria at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) due to miscommunication between Watford and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Yaya Toure accuses Emmanuel Dennis of playing for himself
Speaking after Watford's 3-2 defeat to Arsenal during the weekend, Toure stated that Dennis could hurt opposition players more if he plays more with the team.
Toure said: "Dennis is the top scorer and he looks very much the player who can hurt Arsenal but he appears to be playing for himself.
"He doesn’t put in enough work without the ball and even during kickoff, he didn’t take the knee with the rest of the team. He can do more for the team.
Emmanuel Dennis makes his return to the Super Eagles' fold since he last featured for the national team in November 2020.
The Watford striker reportedly had a running battle with former Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr as well as some disciplinary issues.
