Three times a bronze medallist, Ma emerged victorious from an all-Chinese final in Suzhou, triumphing 11-7 7-11 11-4 11-8 11-13 11-4 over the number 13 seed.

Fang did his best to keep himself in a contest marked by a number of superb rallies, but eventually succumbed to Ma's superior quality.

At 10-3 in the sixth game, the 26-year-old held seven championship points and Fang could only save one as his quest to win the St Bride Vase came to an unsuccessful end, with Ma cementing his status as the best player on the planet.
