Singer's manager thinks award stripping is fishy
Sunday Are, the manager of Starboy Entertainment singer, Wizkid believes MTVs stripping of the artistes Best Africa Act award is questionable.
MTV released a statement on its website claiming that it made a mistake by giving an award meant for Tanzania's Alikiba to Wizkid.
According to the statement, the winner of the award was selected based on fans votes and some other criteria.
In his reaction, Are thinks that the error made by MTV was a big one which ought to raise some brows.
He questioned the motive of the organizers who might have found it difficult to announce on stage that the award should go to another artiste had Wizkid been present at the event.
“They had announced him as the winner and if he was at the award ceremony and the award had been given to him in person, would they come back to say that the award isn’t for him anymore?
"I think there is something fishy going on about this development. If Wizkid was present to receive the award, would they have said on stage that it was an error? I really think there is something suspicious going on.
"The MTV EMA is not a small award, it is a very prestigious one and they cannot afford to make such a mistake because it is too costly.
"Personally, I think there is more to this and something suspicious is going on,” he said.
Despite the development, all fingers still points to Wizkid as the best performing artiste in the year 2016.
Three awards at the 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards and another honour at the 2016 MOBO Awards are testament to this.
